Fixings and finishes
Your fixings will be exposed to the weather, if the wrong type of fixings are used it could result in corrosion or unsightly rust stains on your timber, or even worse the fixings may fail prematurely. Fixings resistant to corrosion should be used including joist hangers, post bases, angle brackets, framing anchors, nails, deck ties and screws.
Clear wax coatings can be applied as an additional water repellent, helping to reduce water absorption, which causes timber to expand and crack.
Staining is an effective way of adding another design dimension to your deck. Decorative products are applied in the same way as other coatings but always use a product made for exterior use on a timber deck surface.
