ARBORDECK MATERIALS GO DOWN
IN HISTORY
Leading timber-decking range Arbordeck™ was
specified for the construction of a family-friendly
decking area at the historic coaching inn The Red
Lion, Silkstone, South Yorkshire.
The 17th century stone-built pub - the setting
for the government inquest into the renowned Huskar
Pit Disaster of 1838 - now boasts a
3.5m x 11m contemporary style decking area. The
simple yet attractive
design has skilfully converted an area of sloping
land into valuable
outdoor space, creating a secure and accessible
environment for all
customers including families or those with disability
or mobility
challenges.
Designed and installed by 'The Decking Company'
(Metro Flooring Systems
Limited) of Barnsley, the deck comprises grooved
deck boards,
contemporary stop chamfered balustrading and stepped
access, together
with a gently inclining timber ramp to one side.
The pub owners are
impressed with the modern extension and are delighted
to have created
more space for customers from this awkwardly angled
site.
Decking is a cost-effective solution for uneven,
sloping land, as boards
can be fitted to support posts rather than directly
to the ground. The
material's flexibility makes it easy to install
with minimal site disruption. Its suitability for
ramps and wheelchair access, combined with appealing
visual and textural
qualities, means decking is a popular
choice for companies throughout the leisure sector.
