ARBORDECK HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES
A head-turning garden featuring the innovative use of Arbordeck deck boards has claimed one of the top prizes at the prestigious Sandringham Flower Show.
Inspired by the iconic comedy sketch performed by Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise with Andre Previn in 1971, ‘All The Right Notes, But…’ was designed to mark the 25th anniversary of Morecambe’s death. There is a string of features in the garden that help to conjure up vivid memories of the country’s best-loved comedians, such as an earn and wispy, matted grass to symbolise Ernie’s wig. Perhaps the most eye-catching feature, though, is the use of Arbordeck’s versatile deck boards to represent the grand piano that was so prominent in the sketch.
Created by Andy Tudbury, who runs Nottingham garden design company Halcyon Days, the garden proved a roaring success at the show and was presented with the Silver Gilt award. The plaudits didn’t stop there, though, as the garden was selected by West Norfolk Council to be permanently re-sited at a community centre in Hunstanton.
A delighted Andy said: “I’ve always wanted to explore the idea of musical notes in a garden because of the organic shape they have. And what better way to bring this to life than by paying tribute to one of the country’s greatest ever entertainers. The aim is for it to act as a reminder that gardens can be fun as well as stylish and contemporary…not to mention bringing a bit of sunshine into people’s lives.”
Leading decking specialists Arbordeck had previously provided Andy with innovative decking solutions for a garden he created at the BBC Gardener’s World Live show in 2007 and had no hesitation in donating again this time round.
Arbordeck’s Marc Foster said: “We already had a productive working relationship in place with Andy when we were approached for this project and we were delighted to get involved. The garden perfectly highlights how innovative thinking can help consumers who are looking for new and exciting ways of utilising the myriad benefits of garden decking.”
Arbordeck holds the deck mark™, a quality assurance award from the Timber Decking Association (TDA), along with a 15-year performance guarantee. Boards are treated with Osmose Naturewood for long-term protection against fungal and insect attack. A wide selection of boards is available, together with a comprehensive range of ancillary products such as joists, spindles, handrails and fittings.
