This decking in Dorset, gets a ‘Love It or List It’ makeover from TV’s Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer.

The inspiration

A retired couple in Dorset struggled to decide whether to fix up their property, or sell it and move on. Patient wife Sue waited 35 years for her builder husband Roy to finish her dream seaside home, but refused to wait any longer, insisting they move. Meanwhile Roy was determined he could deliver, and was firm on keeping the property and the room it offers. 

Previously an unloved space with old timber decking and a rotting hot tub, the owners of this property needed a change for their outdoor space. The property was featured on Channel 4’s ‘Love It or List It’, and thanks to Kirstie and Phil’s help along with TrexPRO installer SB Decking, timber supplied by Sydenhams, and the range of Trex® composite decking products supplied Arbor Forest Products Ltd., the outdoor space was completely transformed to a ‘Love It’. 

The detail for decking in Dorset

The high level of detail and creativity with the varied use of Trex products this project displays can be attributed to having an experienced TrexPRO installer on board with this transformation. For example, the varying levels of the deck proved challenging to overcome, however these were finished flush to the pool thanks to the experience and knowledge of the TrexPRO installer. 

Trex Transcend® composite decking in Island Mist has been aptly laid around the newly refurbished pool at this seaside property. This deep timber-grain decking has been perfectly selected to create a luxurious landscape, whilst also being low-maintenance; perfect for this retired couple. 

Furthermore, Trex Enhance® Naturals in Calm Water is used for the border, to create a modern two-tone contrast effect for further detailing. The use of Trex Enhance® complements the wider use of Trex Transcend® as it provides an authentic timber look, which does not seem out of place against the deep timber grain. Additionally, Trex Enhance® decking is compatible with all Trex Signature® Railing, which gives the project a multitude ways to be creative. 

Even more details have been added to this deck, with the use of Trex Signature® Railing and gate in Charcoal Black. This deep colour choice has provided a significant 

contrast and added to the range of shades in this modern poolside retreat. Adding this feature also can create separate areas which may prove useful for the homeowners; for instance, a more fun and lively pool area perfect for their grandchildren, compared to a more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere safe behind the gates. 

The full effect

The finished result is one described on Love It or List It as a “Love It”, and one which persuaded the homeowners to stay at their property for many more years. The sleek and minimalistic decking and aluminium railings that frame the pool have thoroughly captured the essence of a Mediterranean holiday retreat in this couple’s own back garden, making it the perfect solution for hot summer days in this coastal town.
