Case study: Craig Cwm Celle Salem, decking in Swansea
Installer: Simon Thomas Deck & Design
Location: Swansea
Products used: Trex Transcend® in Island Mist and Tiki Torch, Trex Signature® Railings, Trex CustomCurve™ oven. Simon Thomas Deck & Design utilised several popular Trex products to create this decking in Swansea, resulting in an eye-catching outdoor space named as Deck of the Year at the 2021 Arbordeck Awards.
The inspiration
Both creativity and skill were at the top of the agenda for this deck, which features a striking inlay design inspired by the Celtic symbol, triquetra.
The detail
Through the use of several Trex products and complementary accessories, Simon Thomas Deck & Design was able to create an outdoor living space as practical as it is beautiful.
Popular Trex Transcend® shade Island Mist was used as the deck’s main colour, accented by Tiki Torch borders. Alongside these outer borders, the deck also features Trex Signature® Railing – the ideal safety solution that doesn’t compromise on aesthetics.
However, the standout feature of this deck is its unique inlay; a curved snake design that runs across the full length of the deck. Inspired by the Celtic symbol triquetra, the one-of-a-kind feature showcases Simon’s skill in using the Trex CustomCurve™ oven to create perfectly-shaped and sized composite decking boards.
The installation of this deck also tested Simon’s skill thanks to its location. Working on his own, he successfully built the deck on a balcony on the side of a steep bank which was 14 feet high.
